We witnessed many innovations and discoveries in the first 10 years of the 21st century. Between 2001 and 2010, groundbreaking animal studies were published and numerous new species were found; while some species were saved from extinction, others were wiped from existence. Mankind is probably the most vicious force to ever strike mother nature. Hunting and over population are just some reasons animal species go extinct. Here are 10 most recently extinct animals.
#1 Golden Toad
Often known as the orange or Monteverde toad, the golden toad lived in the Costa Rica, in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Once a widespread species, the people haven’t seen a specimen since 1989. Many breeding spots were monitored and closely watched, however, in 1988 only 8 males and 2 females were found. Experts tried to search for more golden toads, but they failed. In August 2007, the species was declared extinct. Global warming, chytridiomycosis – an amphibian disease, and airborne pollution contributed to the demise of the golden toad.
