#4 – Loss of Control
Loss of control means the driver no longer has full command over the vehicle’s speed and direction and often results in swerving off the road or colliding with another vehicle. Although ‘loss of control’ accounts for around 15% of motor accidents, it makes up the largest percentage of all accident fatalities, at around 34%. If a driver loses control of their vehicle at high speed, then the severity of the ensuing accident is largely down to what type of road they’re on. Contrary to what many people think, most motoring fatalities occur on rural / country roads (52%) and not on high speed motorways, which acount for just 6% of fatalities.
