#5 – Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad ran from 2008 to 2013 on AMC, and fans are still reeling. If you spend any time online at all, you could be forgiven for thinking this show ended yesterday. The series started out telling the tale of Walter White, a family man and high school chemistry teacher who started cooking meth to pay for cancer treatment. It quickly spiralled into a study of one man’s descent into a dark world, and the evil that a seemingly ordinary person can be capable of.
The show won 16 Emmy Awards and numerous other prizes, as well as making superstars out of leads Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. There is now a Spanish-language remake on the way, as well as a spin-off called Better Call Saul that will focus on the life of Walter’s eccentric lawyer Saul Goodman. If you haven’t watched this show already, you should; it received the highest ever rating on Metacritic with 99 out of 100, receiving a Guinness World Record, and is consistently recommended by sites like Reddit and IMDB. This is one internet love affair that will go on for a long time.
