#2 – Sherlock
In 2010, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss launched their updated version of the Sherlock Holmes series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. And the internet exploded. The friendship between the two leads is the focus of constant shipping, Tumblr and Pinterest are loaded with gifs, videos, and fan art paying tribute to the show, and you can even find a Benedict Cumberbatch Name Generator. Hours of fun.
What’s more, it’s a fantastic show. Sherlock’s mixture of drama, mystery, suspense, and wry humour has made it a worldwide hit, and fans frequently bemoan the fact that there is only about three hours of new Sherlock a year (if that). It has been a BAFTA hit, and the show has even been made into a manga in Japan. If you want to get into Sherlock, now is as good a time as any: you only have about nine hours to catch up on and both stars are busy acting in Hollywood at the moment, so there won’t be new episodes any time soon. More’s the pity.
