#4 – Network
There’s a saying that people do business with people they know, like and trust. In other words, people buy people.
Search around your local area and attend some business networking meetings. These are often called breakfast meetings (because they’re run during breakfast time obviously!) and some groups are run during a lunch time or evening time. The format is usually a meet and greet, followed by a meal, a speaker and a chance to tell the room who you are and what you’re looking for. The focus is on building relationships, which then generate referrals.
If you already have a skill, go along and tell people that you’ve recently started out as a said profession / tradesperson and that you’re looking for work, either direct or are hoping to gain employment with a particular company in your area. The chances are that there will be someone in the room who can offer you the right connections or if you’re lucky, runs or works for the type of company that could offer you employment.
If it doesn’t go to plan then you will have learned some valuable skills, built your confidence or might actually decide that it’s best to go into business for yourself!
