#5 – Too Expensive
‘Hello, Bank Mortgages Department? Yes, I’d like to remortgage my house please. House repairs? No, no. I’m attending my friend’s wedding.’
Weddings are expensive. We all know it and yet, when it comes to planning one’s own wedding we tend to forget that attending a wedding can be fairly ch-ching too!
If your guests are travelling some distance and will need to find accommodation in the area, consider how important their attendance is to you before settling on a 5* luxury resort in Surrey, where the cheapest room comes with a £395.00 price tag… excluding breakfast.
Consider also the expense of your hen and stag parties. Whilst a weekend in balmy Marbella might be just the ticket to top up your tan before the big day dawns, keep in mind that the expense may preclude some of your friends from joining you. After all, your wedding may not be the only one they are attending that season and with the average hen party costing around £160pp, the cost of a wedding gift for a close friend or family member adding another £100, plus new outfits, accommodation and travel expenses, it’s not unusual for a guest to find attending the wedding costing upwards of £500. To mitigate some of the expense why not suggest your friends spend the money they would have spent on your wedding gift on joining you for your hen or stag party so you can make your last weekend as a singleton one to remember? How many toasters do one couple need anyway?!
