#6 – Cannabis Causes Birth Defects
Myth: Cannabis consumption during pregnancy causes birth defects to the baby.
Truth: This myths is based upon the presumption that every euphoric or relaxing (considered by some) substance has bad consequences on the unborn baby. Still, even if studies have proven that alcohol, cocaine and tobacco can lead to damage from reduced weight and length at birth to even infant drug addiction or brain damage to the new born baby, cannabis consumption has been analyzed on various study groups with no conclusive result. Even if some studies have shown minor length and weight reduction in babies with consuming mothers, others have demonstrated that babies with cannabis induction during pregnancy have obtained higher scores at the developmental test done when they were 30 days old, than babies with clean mothers.
