#3 – Gather Pertinent Information
Gathering all pertinent information can be very time consuming; however, it does not have to be done all in one day. It is important to pack a bag that includes ID’s, car title, birth certificates, social security cards, credit cards, marriage license, banking information, and some extra money. Other items that you will want to include is an extra set of keys, clothes for you and your children, shoes, medications, and anything that is important to you. It is vital for you to know the number to your local battered women’s shelter, and to take important phone numbers with you such as friends, relatives, doctors, schools, and your lawyer. These items can be stored at a trusted friend, co-worker, or neighbors house. Try to avoid using the homes of next-door neighbors, close family members, and mutual friends.
