Grizzly bears, sharks, and snakes… the world is full of dangerous animals that can turn a day from good to bad in a matter of seconds. Pets escape, wild animals get hungry, and sometimes performing animals just snap, resulting in many deaths each year. Yet sometimes people get lucky and manage to survive a terrible attack.  Here are 10 of the worst animal attacks with surviving victims.

#1 – Bethany Hamilton Shark Attack

In what is probably one of the most famous animal attacks in recent history, Bethany Hamilton was attacked by a shark on October 31, 2003 while surfing in Tunnels Beach, Kaui. She was laying on her surfboard with one arm in the water when a tiger shark swam up and ripped off her arm. Just thirteen at the time, Hamilton suffered an astonishing 60% blood loss and managed not only to survive, but also continued to surf after the attack!
