#8 – Kootoo Shaw Polar Bear Attack

In 2003, Kootoo Shaw, an Inuit tour guide, was camping with three hunters from the United States, when he was brutally attacked by a polar bear. The bear attacked their campsite and chased Shaw when he attempted to run. Shaw tripped on a rock, allowing the bear to bite his head and tear at his skin. Shaw suffered several bites and lashes, two broken ribs, and cuts on his scalp that required over 200 stitches… but he lived.
