(1911): They say theft is the work of an artistic mind. But stealing another artist’s work is not very classy. In 1911, the famous painting of da Vinci’ `Mona Lisa’ was stolen from the Louvre museum, Paris. On August a handyman in the museum was able to hide two raiders in the supply closet before his shift finished. Vincenzo Perugia with his accomplices was able to strip the 200 –pound framed painting from the museum wall, to Paris on a train. Having left no clues behind, Perugia was only captured two years later while selling the masterpiece. This heist not only became famous, it also brought the kind of fame to Da Vinci’s `Mona Lisa’ that it enjoys today.
