The United States accounts for only 5% of the worlds population; however, 2/3 of illegal drugs are consumed in America. While illegal drugs make up a portion of people who suffer from addictions, there are several other addictions that impact people as well. In fact, 1 in 4 deaths in the United States can be attributed to alcohol, tobacco, or illicit drug use. Addictions do not happen over night; therefore, it is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of each of these addictions.
#1 – Alcohol

Everyone likes to go out and have a good time with a few drinks; however, there are some who cannot stop at a few drinks. We all know of someone who is unable to limit the amount of alcohol that they drink. This is one of many signs to be aware of when dealing with alcohol addiction. A few other signs are people who drink alone or hide their drinking, feel strong need or compulsion to drink, develop tolerance to alcohol so more is required to feel the effects, and having physical withdrawal symptoms when drinking stops. Physical withdrawal symptoms can include nausea, shaking or tremors, and sweating. Other signs that the addiction has taken hold include legal problems, financial problems, family issues, and issues with friends.
