Symptom #5 – Change of Sleeping Habits

The desire to sleep a lot or the inability to sleep properly can both be symptoms of depression, especially if coupled with worry and anxiety. The mental energy used up by worrying too much can be energy sapping, which is why sleep can sometimes be the only ‘escape’ from a person’s life’s perceived problems. For others, worry and anxiety can disrupt sleep patterns which can manifest as difficulty getting to sleep or frequently waking up in the middle of the night.
