#4 – Hormones

Milk does the body good, well actually it depends on what hormones have been placed in the feed of cows.  Currently cows are producing 2x as much milk as they did in 1970 and much of this is due to the hormones rBST and rBGH.  These hormones have been banned in Canada and the European Union due to they have been linked to breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer.  Despite these findings, the United States has not banned these hormones from the feed of cows; however some stores will not sell milk that contain these hormones.  If you want to make sure that you stay away from these potentially cancer causing agents than organic milk is free from these added hormones.
