#2 – Coffee Helps Your Brain
Aside from keeping you awake, coffee also helps to improve brain function. The active ingredient in coffee, caffeine, is a known stimulant. Caffeine blocks the effects of an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine and therefore increases neuronal firing in the brain. This will lead to the release of other neurotransmitters like Dopamine and Norepinephrine. In effect, it helps to improve mood, reaction time, memory, vigilance and general cognitive function.
