#10 – Fibre

Dietary fibre has a multitude of health benefits including helping to maintain a healthy digestive system, weight loss and lowering the risk of diabetes and heart disease. There are two different types of fibre: soluble fibre can help lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels and is found in potato skins, oats, peas, beans, apples, citrus fruits, carrots and barley. Insoluble fibre helps keep your bowels healthy and helps prevent digestive problems and good sources include wholemeal bread, bran, cereals, nuts, potato skins and seeds.
Though fibre cannot really be taken as a tablet or supplement, having an adequate intake of soluble and insoluble fibre can help keep your digestive system healthy and aid the uptake of other vitamins and minerals, whether they are consumed naturally or as a supplement.
