#6 – Potassium

Along with sodium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium, potassium is an electrolyte, meaning that it helps to conduct electrical charges in the body. Sodium and potassium exist in a partnership in nerves, and each important use of sodium requires potassium to maintain balance. The bad news is that as average western diets have become depleted in potassium, they have become much more concentrated in sodium. This can cause conditions such as hypertension, fatigue and kidney problems such as kidney stones.
Good sources of potassium include green leafy vegetables, white beans, potatoes and bananas and many good multi-vitamin supplements will include potassium. It is also worth mentioning that a reduction in salt (sodium) rich foods is also recommended for most people as well as potassium supplementation.
