Road traffic accidents (RTAs) can range from inconvenient to devatstating and the causes can be anything from speeding or drink-driving, to bad weather and driver error. Statistics collected from car insurance companies and the UK Department of Transport over the last 9 years have provided some interesting conclusions. These statistics are mirrored to a large extent in other developed countries around the world such as the U.S. so without further ado, let’s have a look at top 5 causes of road motoring accidents…
#5 – Poor Turn or Manoeuvre
As these statistics are based on accident victims and/or eye witness reports, it’s not always easy to determine all the contributing factors to what caused an accident, but a poor turn or manoeuvre accounts for around 14% of overall accidents on the roads and 12% of fatalities. Most of these accidents are classed under ‘driver error’ and are usually related to speeding or lack of concentration.
