#6 – The Fossil Hammer
Found in 1936 by a couple of hikers, Mr. and Ms. Hahn, the fossil hammer looks like a normal hammer from the 19th century, except it has been found in an Ordovician rock formation (110-115 million years ago). The iron head is in perfect condition and what is left of the wooden handle has been petrified in the same way ancient wood is. Scientist still believe this may have occurred due to some chemical solutions that melted the rock and allowed it to re-harden around the hammer. Still, any chemical that melts rocks, shouldn’t it completely destroy the wooden handle?
