#2 – Luis Garavito
Columbia’s most prolific killer, Garavito, murdered 140 children over 5 years in the 1990s – mostly boys aged 8-16. Garavito, known as ‘el loco’ (meaning the crazy one) in local towns, lured his victims to remote places with the promise of food and drink before torturing and killing them. He was captured in 1999 and due to Colombian law restrictions could only be sentenced to 30 years in prison. Since he helped authorities find the bodies of some of his victims, this sentence has been decreased to just 22 years.
