#5 – Canned Tomatoes & Other Canned Foods
It’s not tomatoes on their own that cause the problem, but the interaction of the tomatoes acidity with the resin linings of the tin cans, which contain bisphenol-A (BPA). This interaction leads to BPA leaching into the food. According to the Breast Cancer Fund, BPA has been linked to many health problems related to reproductive problems, behavioral problems, heart diseases, chromosomal damage diabetes, and even breast and prostate cancer. According to the Breast Cancer Fund the same problem of BPA leakage, can also occur in other canned food, like canned fruits, vegetables, beans, or soups.
To avoid intake of BPA (which unfortunately is contained in a vast variety of products, especially polycarbonate plastic ones), the consumer should choose fresh products and foods in glass bottles or Tetra Pak boxes.
