#6 – Eat Smart!
Eating is probably the most enjoyable activity for most of us: especially in stressful moments, when indulging in soul-food seems the only way to get through the day. Still, even if our food addiction cannot be cured (or we don’t want it to be cured), we can still make smart choices that can help us stay in shape, eat healthy and save some money at the same time!
- Buy from your neighbors! No, not your next-door neighbor exactly, but from local farms that are doing their best to give you organic, healthy food. Buying from them will help them grow and not fall in the trap of chemicals and additives that make tomatoes look like watermelons!
- Try to give up meat at least once a week. Look at vegan substitutes for your favorite meat meals and it will help you discover something new and help your budget at the same time
- Try to eat low on the food chain, especially for seafood. Larger species take more time to get to maturity and reproduce and eating them will soon make them extinct
- Document yourself about what and why local, sustainable food and seafood are so great. Be educated, not an ignorant!
