Kids just want to play! Teach them to take calculated risks [image source]Yeah, we know, times have changed. Crime has increased and it’s unsafe to walk ten yards from the house without a cell phone. Really, the only things that haven’t changed are the kids! They want to climb trees and walk to the neighborhood park just like you did as a child. Too bad they are barely given the opportunity to be free like this because parents are so concerned about safety. Of course, there’s a time and a place to be cautious. Kids aren’t given the chance to make their own mistakes anymore.
Kids need to fall down so they know how to get back up on their own! Broken hearts will be necessary for a teenager to mature. A few bruises and scrapes will do your kid some good. You can’t protect your child from everything and you shouldn’t try to. Help your child understand what is safe and what is not safe. Step in during extreme circumstances, but let your kids make their own mistakes. Healthy pain is an important natural teacher.
