#6 – Hydropower
Hydropower is energy that is produced by moving water, usually rivers. It is the biggest source of renewable electricity in the U.S., and many other countries all over the world. Hydroelectric power plants often use dams to seize river water in reservoirs, and release it in a controlled way to spin a turbine that will generate electricity.
Maine is the U.S. state that receives 22 percent of its electricity from hydropower, more than any other state in the United States.
