#1 – “I Wish I’d Had the Courage to Live a Life True to Myself”

This is the biggie and is related to the very first post in this article about letting yourself be happy. I have talked to so many elderly people who are reaching the end of their lives who have this regret. They tell me they were so busy dealing with what, on reflection, were not important issues that by the time they had time to stop and take stock, they had reached old age with their best years behind them and all they were left with was regret. Regret for not focusing on what really mattered – the pursuit of happiness.
What makes us happy is different from person to person but ultimately it boils down to the same things for everyone: being able to love and be loved; being respectful and being respected; and having the freedom to express ourselves and pursue what makes us genuinely happy.
