#5 – Beta-Carotene
Beta-carotene is a known antioxidant typically found in sweet potatoes and carrots. After consuming it, your body converts it into vitamin A, which protects certain cells, and strengthens your immune system. This supplement was heavily researched during the 1970s, but mostly on animals. After several studies, researches suggested that the more beta-carotene you consume, the lower the risk of getting cancer. However, once studies on people began, researches realized that you can’t have any health benefits from taking beta-carotene supplements, and that you can even increase the risk of cancer by taking them. However, you can still find these supplements in many stores even today, but we urge you not to buy them!
