#3 – Mary Pickford

Film: Coquette
Award: Best Actress 1928- 1929
If anyone has the illusion that corruption is a concept that only started recently, they should ask Mary Pickford. Mary won a controversial Academy award even if her performance left a lot to be desired apparently after hosting members of the Academy over at her residence for tea. Whether the members of the Academy could be easily bought by a cup of tea is an argument for another day. What is easier to understand, however, is how she could have influenced things through her funding of a charter member of the Academy of Motion Pictures.
